Fitzrovia Painters & Decorators
Georgian townhouses & stucco
Tall windows, slender mouldings and a carefully proportioned façade deserve a finish that lets the architecture lead. We discuss interior and exterior painting for Fitzrovia townhouses, from one drawing room to a coordinated schedule across several floors.
Discuss your project
Read the façade before choosing a coating
Around Fitzroy Square, stone and stucco can look deceptively similar from the pavement. Historic England identifies Portland stone on the Adam-designed east terrace and stucco on the later north terrace. Your proposal should distinguish existing painted render, bare masonry, timber and metal; a general instruction to paint the front is too broad.

Give the room a coherent colour balance
Consider the ceiling, cornice, wall, shutter and skirting as neighbouring surfaces. Samples need to be seen in the room, beside its flooring and under the lighting that will remain. A quiet wall colour can still show an uneven repair or a heavy edge around a moulding. The preparation schedule should address those details before the final shade is settled.
Separate decoration from an unresolved repair
Describe loose coatings, damaged render, open joints or signs of moisture when enquiring. The proposed preparation should respond to the actual substrate and existing finish. Historic England cautions that older render may need a moisture-permeable coating and that painting bare masonry can cause damage. Any repair or specialist investigation needed first belongs in the scope discussion.
Resolve the visible details together
A front door, fanlight, basement railings and upper windows may require different preparation and access. Specify the faces and edges included, whether windows must open during the work and how occupants will enter the house. Bring existing approvals or the building’s finish schedule to that discussion so the quoted work and the permitted work agree.
